AN AFFORDABLE LIFESTYLE
There are two problems with borrowing money; one is obvious and the other is a bit more subtle. The obvious drawback to borrowing money is the fact that you have to pay it back. Repayment never seems like a problem when the loan is made, but that’s only because the repayment schedule hasn’t started yet. When the due date approaches, the stress increases.
The subtle problem with borrowing is that it distracts you from focusing on God. Debt demands your attention. You are either scurrying to pay your creditors, or you are busy hiding from them. You’ll find few spare moments to be meditating on God if you’re constantly worried about the next monthly payment. It is difficult to see God when you are buried in debt.
Avoid getting into excessive debt. Better yet, avoid borrowing whenever possible. Adjust your lifestyle so you can manage with the money you have.
“Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.”Proverbs 22:7
