Stay on Course
Having a goal means you know where you’re going. It also means you stay on course. The reason rocket science is so difficult is that it has to be exact. If you are shooting for the moon and you are off by only a fraction of a degree, you will miss the target by thousands of miles. In a more down-to-earth example, if you are hanging wallpaper without a plumb line to keep you straight, you will be way off by the time you finish the room.
All of us need something objective and outside of ourselves and our subjective thinking in order to keep us straight and true. That’s why God gave us the Bible. His Word is our plumb line. The Bible is also our compass. There’s not much good staying on course if you don’t know where you’re going. From the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament to “love your neighbor as yourself” in the New Testament, the Bible gives practical advice for life.
It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.
