Swear Not!

“But I tell you, Do not swear at all: Simply let your ’Yes’ be ’Yes,’ and your ’No,’ ’No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Matthew 5:34 a, 37 NIV

In Other Words
Don’t bind your commitments and promises with anything. Give simple, truthful answers without vain or profane embellishments.

Small Bites
✓ Don’t swear on a stack of Bibles
✓ Don’t swear on your mother’s grave
✓ Don’t swear by God or by heaven
✓ Don’t “damn” anything in God’s name
✓ Don’t use Jesus’ name to indorse your actions
✓ Don’t swear by using God’s name as an exclamation
✓ Don’t swear or declare in your own name, either
✓ Speak simply, truthfully, and directly
✓ Say what you mean and mean what you say
