Be glad that your salvation doesn’t depend on you, because you aren’t good enough.
Jesus did more than show us a better way to live. He abolished the need for rules so that in our eternal relationship to Him, there is no standard of conduct by which we are measured.
By sacrificing His life for us, Jesus did us a “special favor.” He made it possible for us to satisfy God’s perfect standard by His forgiveness rather than by our own performance.
Don’t fall into the trap of hanging on to the old rules as a way of satisfying God. Don’t think that by doing everything right, you will be good enough for God. You can’t do it, so don’t even try. Make no mistake about it. Righteous living pleases God, and someone who is truly saved will do those things God planned long ago (Ephesians 2:10), but the only way to gain salvation is to accept the forgiveness that is available through Jesus.
Your lifestyle should be a response to God’s love, not an attempt to win His love.
“We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the special favor of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 15:11
