Caring in Action

Make sure your carring includes doing.Everyone usually looks so nice at church. The clothes are clean, the hair is combed, and the breath is fresh. This makes for a nice Normal Rockwell portrait, but it isn’t God’s intention for Christianity. Forget these notions of such a sterile environment. God wants you getting down and dirty as you help others.

If you really love God, you’re going to get sweaty. It involves hard work. It means serving others (and we aren’t just talking about pouring punch at the church picnic). Maybe God will want you to wash windows or mow the lawn at the home of someone who is ill or disabled. That trip to the beach might have to be postponed so you can help with chores at a village in Mexico during your vacation.

God is more pleased by seeing your dirty hands than your pressed apparel.

Pure and lasting religion in the sight of God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us. James 1:27
