Side by Side

It’s easier to communicate face-to-face if you’re walking side-by-side.One of the best ways to communicate with someone is to walk side-by-side. When you face another person, there’s that issue of eye contact to deal with. When you’re in front of someone, you can’t see his face, and when you’re behind, he can’t see yours. No, side-by-side is the best. You’re together, going in the same direction. When someone comes alongside, you gain confidence and courage.

That’s the picture of how God relates to us. He sent Jesus to die for us, but after He rose from the dead, Jesus returned to heaven, where He is on our side by pleading for us before the Father (1 John 2:1). And right here on Earth, the Holy Spirit comes alongside us as our Counselor and Comforter (John 14:16).

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you.” John 4:16
