Do God’s Thing

The reason God wants us to do things His way is because it’s the best way.

“Do your own thing” may be a catchy slogan, but it’s a lousy philosophy. God is all for us being unique–afterall, He made no two of us alike–but He’s not in favor of our putting our own interests first.

We humans have a history of doing our own thing, usually with disastrous results. It’s called rebellion against God. When people reject God’s way of doing things and choose their own, they reject a perfect plan in favor of a corrupt path. Just look at Adam and Eve, the first parents. They had paradise at their disposal. That was God’s perfect plan for them. Yet they chose their own way, leading to a very bad outcome.

Every day we are faced with choices, most of which come back to the same question. Do we want to do things our way or God’s way?

In those days Israel had no king, so the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. Judges 17:6
