The Love of Money

Money can do a lot of things, and one of the things it does best is take your eyes off God.

There are lots of things you should pray for, but money isn’t one of them. Pray for God’s provision, but don’t pray for riches. It isn’t that money is wrong. Money is neutral. The Bible doesn’t say, “Money is the root of all evil.” It says, “The love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). The problem isn’t money, but our desire for it. Friendships end, marriages break apart, crimes are committed, and people stay away from God–all over money.

Money is one of the “big three” temptations for the Christian, especially if you are in a position of leadership (the other two are sex and power). Money is a weak spot for us, and Satan knows it. Count on him to attach and entice you with the almighty dollar. That’s why you need to count on Almighty God to help you keep your eyes on Him.

“You cannot serve both God and money.” Luke 16:13
