Handling Temptation

It is easier to resist temptation if you don’t go looking for it.

There is nothing wrong with temptation. Until you give in to it, you haven’t done anything wrong. You still have the option of doing what is right. For some people, resisting temptation isn’t a problem because they don’t try to. They simply do what they want, when they want. But if you are going to attempt to live a life that is pleasing to God, you need to learn how to handle temptation.

You will never successfully resist temptation if you try to do it in your own power. It will happen only with God’s power in your life through the Holy Spirit. If you have been discouraged by your failure to resist temptation, then give up. Stop trying to do something that you know is futile. But don’t give in. Depend on God for the power to resist. Focus on Him instead of the temptation.

And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a wqay out so that you will not give in to it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
