You Aren’t Lucky

You may not understand everything that happens to you, but you can be sure everything good comes from God.

We are quick to blame God for the bad stuff that happens to us (”God, where were you when Grandpa got cancer?”) as well as to our world (”That hurricane was an act of God”). On the other hand, when something good happens, we often say, “Well that was lucky.”

We must understand that nothing in our lives and in our world happens outside of God’s knowledge and control. Even though we don’t understand why God allows certain things to occur, we must never accept the notion that God is powerless. He loves us completely and would never do anything to harm us. But until Christ returns “to make things new” (Revelation 21:5), the world and its inhabitants will groan under the burden of sin (Romans 8:22).

Anything good that happens to you is not because you are lucky or fortunate. Luck is powerless to do anything. God is the One who gives you all good things.

Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights. James 1:17
