GIVE GLORY TO GOD

It’s human nature to take credit. It’s God’s nature to receive glory.

There’s a difference between doing things for God in order to impress others and doing things for God in order to impress, well, God! When your motive is to impress others, your good deeds—the ones God wants you to do—are going to bring attention to you. People will praise you for your generosity and your efforts.

When your motive is to impress and please God, that changes everything. You are still out there, enthusiastically serving others, giving you time, talents, and resources, but you let the spotlight fall on God. He gets the glory, not you.

That’s the way God wants us to work. We shouldn’t stay so much in the background that nobody knows why we’re doing something, but neither should we be out in front hogging the light. God wants us to shine the light on Him so everyone can see.

“Let your good deeds shine for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16
